Step 3: Save Your Seed Phrase (CRITICAL!)

🚨 THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP

Your 12-word seed phrase is the ONLY way to recover your wallet. If you lose it, your funds are gone forever. If someone steals it, they can drain your wallet.

⚠️ This is just an example — never use someone else's seed phrase!

How to Save Seed Phrase Safely

    Click "Reveal Secret Recovery Phrase"

    MetaMask shows your 12 words

  2. 2

    Write it down on paper (PHYSICAL paper!)

    Write each word in order: 1. witch, 2. collapse, 3. practice, etc.

  3. 3

    Double-check spelling (common mistakes ruin recovery)

    One wrong letter = can't recover wallet

  4. 4

    Store in safe place (fireproof safe, safety deposit box)

    Don't leave it on your desk, in digital notes, or in email

  5. 5

    Confirm by entering words in correct order

    MetaMask asks you to verify you wrote it down

❌ NEVER DO THIS:

  • • ❌ Screenshot seed phrase (malware can steal images)
  • • ❌ Email to yourself (emails get hacked)
  • • ❌ Save in Google Docs/Notes app (cloud sync = hackable)
  • • ❌ Share with anyone (including "MetaMask support" — scam!)
  • • ❌ Store on your computer (viruses steal text files)

Step 4: Add Polygon Network to MetaMask

By default, MetaMask only shows Ethereum. Polymarket uses Polygon network (cheaper, faster). You must add it manually.

Option A: Add via Chainlist (Easiest)

    Visit chainlist.org

    Official network directory

    Search "Polygon Mainnet"

    Type in search box at top

    Click "Add to MetaMask"

    MetaMask popup appears

    Click "Approve" → "Switch Network"

    Done! Polygon is now active

Option B: Add Manually (If Chainlist Doesn't Work)

    Shows "Ethereum Mainnet" by default

    Click "Add Network" → "Add a network manually"

    Enter Polygon details (copy exactly!):

    Network Name: Polygon Mainnet

    New RPC URL: https://polygon-rpc.com

    Chain ID: 137

    Currency Symbol: MATIC

    You're now on Polygon!

Step 5: Connect MetaMask to Polymarket

    Open in same browser as MetaMask

    NEVER share your seed phrase with anyone

    Not even "MetaMask support" (they'll never ask). Anyone with your seed phrase can steal everything.

    Verify URLs before connecting wallet

    Check transaction details before signing

    MetaMask shows what you're approving. Don't blindly click "Confirm".

    Keep 0.5–1 MATIC for gas fees

    Without MATIC, you can't make transactions. Buy on exchange, send to wallet.

    Use hardware wallet for large amounts (>$5k)

    Ledger/Trezor provide offline key storage (~$60–$120)

    Test with small amounts first

🔧 Common Issues & Fixes

Issue: "Can't connect to Polymarket"

Fix:

  • • Make sure MetaMask is on Polygon network (not Ethereum)
  • • Refresh page and try connecting again
  • • Clear browser cache, restart browser

Issue: "Transaction failing"

Fix:

  • • Check you have MATIC for gas (need 0.5–1 MATIC minimum)
  • • Increase gas limit in MetaMask settings
  • • Wait 5 minutes and try again (network congestion)

Issue: "Wrong network" error

Fix:

  • • Click network dropdown in MetaMask (top center)
  • • Switch to "Polygon Mainnet"
  • • Refresh Polymarket page
